Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ 4 and upwards
- Previous experience in agriculture, horticulture, greenhouse work, or a meticulous hand-packaging role is a strong asset
Key Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance and Monitoring
- Perform daily scouting of assigned vertical growing zones to assess plant health, growth stage, and signs of stress
- Execute precise tasks such as pruning runners and defoliating older foliage
- Assist in transplanting new seedlings and removing spent plants
Manual Pollination
- Carefully perform daily manual pollination of strawberry flowers using designated tools to ensure optimal fruit set, size, and yield
- Identify and track bloom stages across the farm
- Maintain accurate records of pollination schedules and zones
Harvesting
- Harvest strawberries daily at peak ripeness based on strict color, size, and firmness criteria
- Handle all fruit with extreme care to prevent bruising and damage
- Sort harvest by grade, removing any fruit that does not meet quality standards
- Weigh, tag, and record harvest data for each variety and zone
Packaging and Post-Harvest
- Gently pack harvested strawberries into clamshells or other designated packaging according to precise weight and presentation standards
- Ensure accurate labeling and lot coding for traceability
- Prepare packed orders for immediate cooling and distribution
Farm Cleanliness and Sanitation
- Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and biosecurity (GMP) at all times to protect the controlled environment
- Perform daily sanitization of workstations, tools, harvest bins, and equipment
- Follow strict personal hygiene and gowning procedures before entering the growing areas
- Remove plant waste and debris promptly and dispose of it according to protocol
- Participate in deep-cleaning schedules for the growing rooms and common areas
Required Skills
- Ability to work efficiently while standing for extended periods and performing repetitive manual tasks with great care
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions precisely
- Strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and cleanliness protocols
- Comfort working in a climate-controlled environment with elevated humidity and artificial lighting
